Travels | Slow Living in the Italian Village

Many of us feel that sometimes life is too hectic, too chaotic, too busy and simply overwhelming. And we often feel hungry for a change, hungry for a simpler and slower life. This is the way of living at my parents home, in one Italian village. Days were sunny and peacefully slow there. On first days I refused to travel around and simply drowned into a peaceful life with no rush or commitments. Girls were running barefoot and enjoyed the freedom, we slept a lot, wandered around the village, tasted local foods and drinks, went for wild walks and wild swimming and even managed to forage some mushrooms!

Daugelis iš mūsų dažnai jaučia, kad gyvenimas yra chaotiškas, tempas per greitas ir varginantis. Tokiais momentais, būname ištroškę poilsio, pokyčių ir lėtesnio ir paprastesnio gyvenimo. Būtent tokiu lėtu tempu ir paprastai gyvenau pirmas dienas savo tėvų namuose, viename Italijos kaimelyje. Dienos ten saulėtos, o laikas teka ramiai ir neskubėdamas, o aš pasinėriau į kaimo ramybę. Mergaitės lakstė basomis ir mėgavosi laisve, mes daug miegojome, klaidžiojome po kaimelio apylinkes, ragavome vietinio maisto ir gėrimų, tyrinėjome gamtą, ėjome maudytis ir netgi radome grybų!

August is the peak time for fruits and veggies. It was a perfect time to show our girls there does the food comes from. They saw sweet corns and sunflowers fields, ate grapes and figs straight from the trees. Our neighbours would turn up every morning with watermelon, grapes, figs or tomatoes straight from their garden (and they make the best wine in the world!) Seeing all this food in nature is a great way to teach kids to appreciate it.

Rugpjūtis Italijoje yra vaisių ir daržovių mėnuo. Tai buvo puikus laikas parodyti miesto vaikams, iš kur atkeliauja maistas į mūsų namus. Mergaitės matė saulėgrąžų ir kukurūzų laukus, vynuoges ir figas valgė tiesiai nuo medžių. Kiekvieną dieną kaimynai mus vaišino tai arbūzais, tai vynuogėmis, tai figomis, tai pomidorais tiesiai iš jų daržo (o jų gaminamas naminis vynas turbūt skaniausias kokį teko ragauti!). Tiesioginis kontaktas su gamta, stebėjimas iš kur atkeliauja maistas yra geriausias būdas išmokyti vaikus gerbti ir tausoti aplinką.

Those peaceful days were perfect to me, but the best thing for our girls was – unlimited freedom. They were allowed to wander around on their own (would never even consider such a thing in the UK!) and usually spent time on a playground which I was able to see through the window. I saw and they told me, they were on the swings, playing something, exploring bugs etc. but to be honest, the most of the time I had no clue what they were doing! I was so happy to see them enjoying unstructured play all day long! Because free play provides valuable time for them to evolve at their own rhythms and to enjoy the outdoors, create their own world and cultivate their imagination. They were able to find their own ways to occupy their minds and join a world where nothing is expected of them. These were the days! I believe that they made lifetime memories.

Tos ramios dienos man buvo pačios nuostabiausios, bet mergaitėms turbūt pats geriausias dalykas buvo – absoliuti laisvė. Joms buvo leidžiama bastytis vienoms dviems (apie ką net negalėtum pagalvoti Anglijoje!) ir dažniausiai jos laiką leisdavo žaidimų aikštelėje, kurią matydavau pro namų langą. Mačiau kaip suposi ant supynių, kažką žaidė, tyrinėjo vabaliukus, nors iš esmės, didžiąją laiko dalį pati nežinojau ką jos ten veikė! Visai kaip mano vaikystės laikais. Bet kaip smagu buvo stebėti jų laisvę kiekvieną dieną! Laisvas žaidimas yra labai svarbus vaiko raidai ir skatina kūrybiškumą. Jos pačios diena iš dienos atrasdavo kuo užsiimti ir mėgavosi buvimu, kuomet joms nereikia pateisinti jokių lūkesčių. Laisvas žaidimas gamtoje, tai nepakartojama patirtis ir atsiminimai, kurią galime suteikti vaikystėje ir esu tikra, kad šios vasaros atsiminimai joms išliks visam gyvenimui!
