Tell us about yourself and how did you meet each other?
We met at a clothes swap at a mutual friends house in Bristol, we got chatting and realised we had a huge amount in common, we are both from big families, we have both been lifeguards in past jobs, we both loved crafting and being creative plus we were both ladies of leisure, so we decided to hangout and do some crafting. We made loads of different things and had a great time coming up with lots of new ideas.

Mes susitikome draugė namuose Bristolyje, kur buvo suorganizuotas draugių apsikeitimas drabužiais. Pradėjome plepėti ir supratome, kad turime daug ką bendro: abi esame iš didelių šeimų, mes abi ragavę gelbėtojų darbo, abiems patinka kūrybiškumas ir rankdarbiai. Be to, abiems patinka kūrybingai leisti laisvalaikį, tad vieną kartą nusprendėme tiesiog susitikti ir ką nors kūrybiško nuveikti drauge. Taip gimė ne tik daugybė naujų dalykų, bet ir idėjų.
How did you come up with beeswax wraps idea?
Carly had come across beeswax wraps in Australia whilst she was living there, we were wandering through Stroud market and came across a stall selling beeswax, we bought some and started experimenting. It all then built from there.
Kaip jums šovė į galvą bičių vaško drobių idėja?
Carly kurį laiką gyveno Australijoje – ten ji ir pamatė bičių vaško drobes. Nukeliavome į turgų, suradome pirkti bičių vaško ir pradėjom eksperimentuoti. Nuo to viskas ir prasidėjo.
Tell us about the process – where and how you make beeswax wraps?
We started off in Carly’s kitchen then spread to her dining room then her spare room until we had pretty much covered the whole house in wax. We then realised that we would need to get a workroom so have just moved into our own dedicated space which is really exciting. The process has quite a few stages and has taken the past 6 months to really refine and get to the quality level we are really happy with. We infuse the cotton with local Cotswolds beeswax, organic jojoba oil and natural pine resin. Everything is done by hand from cutting the fabric to breaking up the huge lump of beeswax with a large hammer! It’s a pretty intense process but its great to have full control and see such a great end product.
Papasakokite apie gamybos procesą – kur ir kaip gaminate bičių vaško drobes?
Mes pradėjome gamybos procesą Carly virtuvėje, tada išsiplėtėm į valgomąjį, vėliau į dar vieną kambarį, kol beveik visą namą padengėme vašku. Tada supratome, kad mums reikia dirbtuvių ir visai neseniai persikėlėme į atskirą, darbui skirtą erdvę, dėl ko labai džiaugiamės. Visas gamybos procesas yra kelių etapų ir užtrukome maždaug 6 mėnesius, kol pasiekėme aukštą kokybės lygį, kuriuo jau esame patenkintos. Mes užpilame medvilnės drobes vietiniu bičių vašku, ekologišku simondsijų aliejumi ir natūraliais pušų sakais. Viską darome savo rankomis – nuo medžiagų sukirpimo iki didžiulių bičių vaško luitų skaldymo milžinišku plaktuku! Tai gana intensyvus procesas, bet smagu žinoti, kad mes pačios galim šį procesą konroliuoti ir pamatyti tokį puikų galutinį rezultatą.
Can you share some creative ways of using Beeswax wraps?
There are so many ways you can use our wraps, we are still finding new uses for them all the time. You can use them for the basics like wrapping sandwiches and covering bowls to keep food fresh. We also use ours as piping bags, rolling out the pastry and making funnels.

What are you doing when not working?
Carly is a music teacher and Fran is an Acupuncturist so we are pretty busy juggling our normal work lives and setting up a new business.
Which book do you recommend to read for everyone/movie to watch?
(Fran) I would recommend that everyone should read “Grapes of Wrath” it is a fantastic story about survival and the depths of human kindness.
(Carly) I love the book “A Thousand Splendid Suns” it has the most beautiful ending. A beautiful story about different paths to happiness.
Ką veikiate, kai nedirbate?
Carly yra muzikos mokytoja, o Fran – akupunktūros specialistė, tad esame gana užsiėmę žongliruodamos tarp darbų ir naujo verslo kūrimo.

(Fran) Kiekvienam rekomenduoju paskaityti “Grapes of Wrath”– fantastišką istoriją apie išlikimą ir beribį žmogaus gerumą.
(Carly) Aš myliu “A Thousand Splendid Suns” knygą, kuri turi pačią gražiausią pabaigą. Graži istorija apie skirtingus kelius į laimę.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
For both of us, we feel immensely proud of what we have achieved with Beeswax Wraps in such a short time. We are so excited about 2018 and what it will hold for us. We have so much passion and energy for this business, it really is a very exciting time.
What is the most exciting about your work?
We love being our own bosses and having the creative freedom to take the business wherever we want it to go. Every week something new and exciting is happening, the response we are having to our wraps has been fantastic and the doors that are opening for us are more than we could have ever wished for.

What are your future plans related to Beeswax Wraps?
We want to get our wraps out to more stores and to help spread the plastic-free message. Our wraps are such a simple and easy swap for everyone wanting to cut down on their everyday plastic use. We just want to keep on enjoying it and being creative.
What would you wish to La Pepa Blog readers?
We would love to inspire La Pepa readers to think about their plastic use and how they could make a few small changes to reduce our plastic waste. It can sometimes feel quite overwhelming to make these changes so we hope a product like our beeswax wraps will help them see it can be a positive and fun change.
