Years ago, I used to be addicted to beauty and personal care products. I was literally obsessed with buying and trying every beauty product available on the market, never thinking for a split second about what was actually IN them. Nice packaging? Great commercial? They were probably good enough. I was hooked by the promising claims of the beauty industry, but most importantly, I was completely unaware of the chemicals they contained and their potentially harmful effects on my body and environment. Who would think that an innocent shampoo could contain carcinogenic substances?
But then I became a mother. When I was pregnant, I came across the study conducted in 2003 detected parabens in the breast milk of mothers and the cord blood of newborn babies, proving that they can penetrate your skin and stick around in your organ tissue for an extended period of time. That meant I needed to make quality and conscious decisions about not only what products I was going to use for her, but also what I was going to eat, who I was going to spend time with, what products I was going to clean my house with, and what I was going to put on my skin.
Kažkada aš buvau tiesiog apimta kosmetikos bei grožio priemonių pirkimo manijos. Man norėjosi išbandyti kiekvieną naują produktą ir niekada nei sekundėlei netoptelėjo klausimas, kas gi yra to produkto SUDĖTYJE. Graži pakuotė? Patraukli reklama? To pakanka. Buvau naivi ir tikėjau, kad visi tei produktai iš tikro puoselėja mūsų grožį. Grožio industrija man buvo apsukusi galvą, ir aš niekada negalėjau pagalvoti, jog tie produktai iš tikrųjų gali būti labai kenksmingi. Na kas pagalvotų, kad nekaltame šampūne gali būti kancerogeninių medžiagų?
Tačiau tada aš tapau mama. Dar būdama nėsčia aptikau mokslinį straipsnį, kuriame buvo kalbama apie parabenus, patenkančius į kūną naudojant įvairias kosmetikos bei odos priežiūros priemones. Rezultatai stulbinantys – parabenai kaupiasi žmogaus kūne. Jų buvo aptikta ne tik motinos piene, bet ir naujagimių virkštėlės kraujyje gana dideliais kiekiais. Tai mane paskatino priimti sąmoningus ir atsakingus sprendimus ne tik kuomet kalbama apie priemones naudojamas dukrytei, bet ir tai, ką aš valgysiu, kaip ir su kuo leisiu savo laisvalaikį, kokius produktus naudosiu namų valymui bei ką tepsiu ant savo odos.

Face wash and shampoo only stay on your body for a few minutes at most, while body lotions, face foundations, serums and moisturizers are designed to be absorbed into your skin for good.
