Rome was my dream since the childhood as it’s one of a fascinating city with nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display. Last Christmas instead of buying things for each other I and my husband bought tickets to Italy and it was the greatest holiday experience ever! I mean if you prefer lazy beach holiday it might be nothing impressive for you but I was just blown-minded how glorious and beautiful this city is, overwhelmed looking at the masterpieces and despite I was tired after many hours and kilometres walking I was extremely happy. I came back home feeling richer than ever and it took me quite a few days to get back to earth 🙂
Roma buvo mano svajonė nuo vaikystės. Mane beprotiškai žavėjo jos didinga tūkstantmečius menanti architektūra, meno šedevrai ir kultūra, padariusi didelę įtaką Europos kultūros raidai. Praėjusių Kalėdų proga, vietoj dovanų vienas kitam, su vyru ėmėm ir nusipirkom bilietus į Italiją. Ir tai buvo viena nuostabiausių patirčių. Taip, jeigu jums patinka tingiai gulėti paplūdimyje visas 10 atostogų dienų, tokia kelionė ko gero ne jums, kuomet iš nuovargio ir nukeliautų kilometrų skauda kojas, o galva net spengia nuo patirtų emocijų ir įspūdžių. Bet būtent tokios atotsogos man ir yra pačios geriausios. Grįžau namo neapsakomai praturtėjusi ir užtrukau kelias dienas, kol atsigavau ir sugebėjau grįžti prie rutinos 🙂

It took a great planning to have a smooth holiday. You have to research information in advance and read some travel bloggers’ tips. My advice is to buy tickets in advance so you can skip the massive queues. We bought RomaPass which provides free entries to some museums and discounts, free public transport but honestly you can just walk everywhere. We booked a hotel near the Vatican and there was no need to use the bus. Besides, walking is a green choice and great way to discover Rome.

Victor Emmanuel II Monument
This impressive monument was built in honour of Victor Emmanuel, the first king of a unified Italy. There is a free museum but the best thing is that from the top of the building you can see all Rome!
Šis įspūdingas monumentas buvo pastatytas pirmojo suvienytos Italijos karaliaus Viktoro Emanuelio II-ojo garbei. Jame yra nemokamas muziejus, tačiau nuostabiausias dalykas, kad užlipus į pastato viršų prieš jūsų akis atsivers visa nuostabi Romos panorama.

Other stairs would take you to the Capitoline Museums. The historic sets of the museums are considered the first museum in the world, understood as a place where art could be enjoyed by all and not only by the owners.
Šalia esantys laiptai veda į Caputolini muziejus. Šie istoriniai muziejai laikomi pirmaisiais pasaulyje, kuriuose meno kūriniai buvo prieinami visiems.

Then we headed to the Colosseum which is suited just east of the Roman Forum. Luckily with RomaPass we were able to skip the queue because it was massive! Built of concrete and sand, Colosseum is the largest amphitheatre ever built which could hold an average audience of some 65,000. Although partially ruined because of damage caused by earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum is still an iconic symbol of Imperial Rome.
Tuomet mes pasileidom link Koliziejaus, kuris yra šalia Romos forumo. Prie jo buvo nusidriekusi milžiniška eilė, bet laimei, su RomaPass mes galėjome aplenkti eilę. Koliziejus yra didžiausias kada nors pastatytas amfiteatras, kuris galėjo sutalpinti maždaug 65 000 žiūrovų auditoriją. Nors pastatas ir buvo apgadintas žemės drebėjimų ir akmens vagių, jis vis dar stovi didingai, kaip vienas žymiausių Romos Imperijos simbolių.

Roman Forum
The Roman forum is surrounded by the ruins of several important ancient government buildings at the center of the city of Rome between Capitoline Hill, Palatine Hill, and Colosseum. Originally the area was marsh which was drained and turned into a centre of political and social activity. The Forum was the marketplace of Rome and also the business district and civic centre. The most ancient monuments at the Roman Forum are for the first kings of Rome, dating back to the sixth century BC.
Romos Forumas yra yra didelis architektūrinis ansamblis, išsidėstęs pačiame Romos centre, tarp Romos Kapitolijaus kalvos, Palatino kalvos ir Koliziejaus. Iki 600 m. pr.Kr. šioje vietoje plytėjo pelkė, kuri buvo nusausinta ir paversta politiniu bei socialiniu romėnų centru, kuriame vyko prekyba, buvo statomos šventyklos, vyko poliniai posėdžiai.

40 metres above the Roman Forum stands the Palatine Hill. You will find there museum and building, believed to be a residence of Livia, the wife of Augustus.

The Wings of Freedom
No wonder after all the walking we were tired but we had to take the most of our few days in Rome therefore, we had a walk back home through the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Piazza Navona.
Nieko keisto, kad po visos dienos ant kojų ir numintų daugybės kilometrų skaudėjo kojas, bet mes norėjome iš tų kelių dienų Romoje pasiimti kiek įmanoma daugiau. Taigi, namo patraukėme pėsčiomis, pakeliui aplankydami Trevi Fonataną, Panteoną ir Navona aikštę.

Yes, Rome is magic indeed. After visiting Rome my husband said that is should be the last city to see. Because nothing can impress you more than the glory of Rome. Nothing compares to it.
Taip, Roma yra tikrai magiška. Kaip pasakė mano vyras, tai turėtų būti paskutinis miestas, kurį jūs aplankote, kadangi prieš Romą viskas nublanksta.
